18+ million Tenants in Kenya are concerned and worried about harassments, mistreatment, exploitations, unlawful evictions, unjustified rent increments, sub-standard buildings and poor housing conditions which are common happenings in most residential places in Kenya. Kenya Tenants Assistance Agency (KETAA) was formed with a strong mandate to address these issues and champion the rights of tenants. KETAA represents tenants, empowers tenants, provides legal advice, provides legal representation, educates tenants, campaigns for the rights of tenants and development of poor facilities in residential areas.

The Kenya Tenants Assistance Agency (KETAA) was established with the core mission of advocating for the rights and welfare of tenants across Kenya. Originating as a tenants’ rights activist organization, KETAA has grown into a strong voice against injustices faced by tenants, including harassment, exploitation, unlawful evictions, and substandard housing conditions. We strive to empower tenants with the knowledge of their legal rights and provide guidance and support to those experiencing unfair treatment by landlords or their agents. Our work is grounded in the belief that all tenants deserve safe, dignified, and secure living conditions, as well as equal protection under the law.

KETAA operates in cities and major urban centers throughout Kenya. Our reach continues to grow as housing challenges evolve in both urban and peri-urban areas. Through community outreach, legal aid, advocacy campaigns, and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, we aim to create a just and equitable housing system for all. Whether through resolving disputes, offering legal education, or engaging policymakers, KETAA remains committed to safeguarding the interests of tenants and shaping housing policies that prioritize their dignity and rights.
